Blackbox is the title track from the fourth studio album by Major Parkinson, the outlandish Norwegian cult prog phenomenon. The new album is due out in late October 2017, released by Degaton Records in Norway and by Karisma & Dark Essence Records in the rest of the world.
Featuring haunting lead vocals from Linn Frøkedal (Megaphonic Thrift, Misty Coast), Blackbox is a pop hybrid in a strange intersection somewhere between arctic electronics and heavy industry. In a room filled with black boxes that cannot be opened you can hear muffled screams. All the boxes have their own story to tell, but none of them can be deciphered. Accompanied by unrelenting horn sections, rusty hammers and chisels, you are invited on a march through cascades of glitter, faceless cheerleaders and burning flags.
lyrics
blackbox, blackbox, calorie chart
owls’ talons clenching my heart
blackbox, blackbox, hit the bell jar!
can you hear me?
blackbox, blackbox, Tesla coil kid
crying in a pigeonhole that’s what you did
in the blackbox, blackbox
tap on the lid
can you hear me?
the raven lock, the brazen lid
the rattling chains and the secrets we hid
in the blackbox
the solid rope, the bridal noose
the matter of self and the substance abuse
in the blackbox
my feather star, you swam too far
the tidal bore of belvedere
you hiss, you’re breathing
you run, you’re swimming
you kissed the razor
in the blackbox
blackbox, blackbox, calorie chart
owls talons clenching my heart
blackbox, blackbox, hit the bell jar
can you hear me?
blackbox, blackbox, Tesla coil kid
crying in a pigeonhole, that’s what you did
in the blackbox, blackbox
tap on the lid
can you hear me?
you’re in the blackbox, fish out of water
welcome to dystopia, plain is the color
blackbox, blackbox, do the Fritz Lang
dance around the pyre with the rest of the gang
you hiss, you’re breathing
you run, you’re swimming
you crave, you crumble
you burst, you bubble
you took the beating
jump rope, hopscotch
bloody knuckles, huckle-buckle beanstalk
miss Mary Mack never came home
Major Parkinson is a particle collider of huge, cinematic melodies, catchy pop hooks, impossible rhythms and psychedelic
lyrics. A distinctly different band, with an unconventional, associative and almost irrational approach to the art of writing music.
"Major Parkinson are the Coldplay Cardiacs, with giant commercial songs bent into strange uncommercial shapes" - Prog Magazine...more
A catchy fusion between prog, rock and metal, bathed in exquicite electronic catchyness and littered with anime brainworm melodies. A playful and vibrant package that'll make you at least 5% happier. Major Parkinson

Soaring theatrical catchy rock and pop tunes that are not boring and segue and evolve linearly from one to the next. If they sound this big with DIY production, imagine how insanely huge they’d sound with big time production. Sound in the neighborhoods of Bowie, Floyd, and Cardiacs. This whole record moves me and I can’t pick a favorite song. marc_ian
